The President’s Fitness for Office Must Be Questioned — Immediately

To: Sen. Warner, Rep. Subramanyam, Sen. Kaine

From: A constituent in Lovettsville, VA

March 23

Dear Members of Congress, This past week, the President of the United States gave you everything you need to act. You have no more excuses. On Thursday, March 19, he sat beside the Prime Minister of Japan — a critical ally — and joked about Pearl Harbor while American troops are dying in an active war. On Friday, March 20, while deploying additional Marines to the Middle East, he stood on the South Lawn and declared: “I think we’ve won. From a military standpoint, they’re finished.” That same day he flew to Florida — and publicly celebrated the death of Robert Mueller, a decorated combat veteran, writing “Good, I’m glad he’s dead.” Even Fox News called it disgraceful. Then today, March 23, he claimed Iran had reached out to him for talks, that the two sides had “major points of agreement” and that Iran agreed to give up nuclear weapons. Iran’s Foreign Ministry, its Parliament Speaker, and its state media all flatly denied any negotiations had taken place — calling Trump’s claims “fake news aimed at influencing oil markets.” So which is it? Did we win — or are we now sending thousands more troops? Is Iran negotiating — or is Iran calling the President a liar on the world stage? A commander-in-chief who cannot keep his own account of an active war consistent from one day to the next is not simply a bad communicator. He is a danger. To our troops. To our allies. To global stability. The 25th Amendment exists for exactly this moment. We implore you: stop waiting. Act now.
