VOTE AGAINST BIG “BEAUTIFUL” BILL

To: Sen. Budd, Sen. Tillis

From: A constituent in Mebane, NC

June 30

I’m begging you to vote NO on the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill.” This is one of the most dangerous pieces of legislation proposed in my lifetime. Senator Tillis has already said he opposes it, and I fully support him sticking to that position. Senator Budd, I urge you to do the right thing and vote no as well. This bill would be catastrophic. It’s not just “lazy” people on Medicaid who will be hurt — it’s children like my infant niece, who has a rare genetic condition and relies on specialized care funded by Medicaid. Over 1 in 5 Americans depend on Medicaid, including disabled people, seniors in nursing homes, and children with serious health issues. (Source: KFF) If Medicaid is gutted, hospitals — especially in rural communities — will shut down or slash services. Hospitals get about 60% of their funding from Medicaid and Medicare. If they close, even people with private insurance could be left without anywhere to go in an emergency. People will die, and local economies will collapse. (Source: American Hospital Association) On top of that, this bill raises taxes massively on the working poor. Analyses show people making under $15,000 could face effective tax rates up to 74% because of new tax burdens and the devastating loss of benefits. That is outrageous and immoral. (Source: Tax Policy Center) Cutting essential care and crushing low-income Americans under massive taxes is not conservative, fiscally responsible, or patriotic. It’s cruelty, plain and simple. Do not let this become law. Vote NO.
