Ban Gerrymandering and Restore the Voting Rights Act
My dear members of Congress,
I am writing as your constituent to express my deep concern regarding the Supreme Court’s recent decision in Louisiana v. Callais. By narrowing Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, the Court has significantly weakened the primary tool used to ensure fair representation for all communities.
This ruling opens the door for increased partisan and racial gerrymandering, which silences the voices of voters and undermines our democracy.
I am asking you to take the following actions:
Support a National Ban on Gerrymandering: I urge you to support legislation like the Freedom to Vote Act to establish fair, national standards for redistricting and end partisan manipulation of maps.
Restore the Voting Rights Act: Please prioritize the passage of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to restore and strengthen critical protections against discrimination in our electoral process.
Fair elections are the foundation of our republic, and it is incumbent upon Congress to protect every citizen’s right to equal representation.
I look forward to hearing how you plan to address these urgent issues.
