Defend LGBTQI+ rights, reject flag provision in defense bill

To: Sen. Kelly, Sen. Sinema

July 20

Stop Censoring the Pride Flag The provision on page 1,000 of the defense appropriations bill that would limit the flags allowed to be flown over U.S. State Department facilities is a discriminatory measure that undermines the State Department's critical work to promote LGBTQI+ rights worldwide. Restricting the display of the pride flag sends the wrong message and harms our nation's credibility on human rights issues. As a champion of freedom and equality, the United States should embrace symbols celebrating diversity, not ban them. This misguided provision must be struck from the final legislation in support of LGBTQI+ individuals at home and abroad.
