Yesterday, your Washington State colleagues—Senators Murray and Cantwell—voted to block the DHS funding package you helped pass in the House. They joined their Democratic colleagues in demanding accountability for ICE operations that have killed American citizens.
The Senate vote failed. Your vote on January 22nd is now meaningless. The bill you defended will not pass in its current form.
Your senators showed leadership. They listened to constituents. They recognized that funding ICE without accountability was unacceptable. They changed course when the facts demanded it.
You have done none of these things.
When the revised package comes back to the House—whether in two weeks or sooner—you will have another opportunity to vote. Your constituents are watching. The majority of Americans who oppose ICE operations are watching. The families of Renee Good and Alex Pretti are watching.
Will you follow your senators' lead and vote NO? Or will you vote YES again and explain how your "strategy" is better than Murray and Cantwell's leadership?
Your silence has been noted. Your next vote will define you.
