An Open Letter

To: Del. Wells, Sen. Hayes, Del. Amprey, Del. Conaway, Gov. Moore

From: A constituent in Baltimore, MD

June 26

Hello, my name is Darcy and I am writing today to encourage you to think somewhat outside the box in providing for your constituents. I know you've already heard of Universal Basic Income and Universal Healthcare (which I have previously asked you to consider for the state of Maryland and still encourage you to pursue). My latest suggestion is Universal Food Stamps. We all know food prices are rising and wages are not keeping up. Universal Food Stamps could go a long way towards providing stability for Maryland families. Also I think it would inject a little more sanity into discussions on what food stamps should cover, if more people were directly affected. It would also highlight how Trump's policies have resulted in ever higher prices, despite running on bringing down prices as a key campaign promise. There is a lot of evidence that Universal Basic Income programs do a lot of good, and this would provide a lot of similar benefits without having to fully commit to UBI.
