I strongly oppose HB213 and its proposed revisions to Utah's voting laws. Implementing voter restrictions like requiring specific ID for registration, limiting early voting periods and locations, and banning private election funding would unduly burden and disenfranchise many eligible voters across our state. Mail-in elections have proven safe and secure; baseless claims of widespread fraud do not justify erecting additional barriers to the democratic process. If these rules had been in place previously, many currently elected officials would not have taken office. Rather than impeding voter access through unnecessary constraints, we should expand participation to strengthen our representative system. I urge reconsideration of this misguided legislation that threatens to undermine faith in fair elections.
