Energy legislation needs consumer choice, renewables and efficiency measures.

To: Del. Rasoul, Gov. Youngkin, Sen. Suetterlein

From: A constituent in Roanoke, VA

January 24

Lawmakers should freeze all rate hikes for Appalachian Power Company and allow other power companies to enter the market and offer more choices. This increased competition will drive down costs for consumers. Opening the energy sector to competition from diverse providers, rather than a regulated monopoly, gives residents greater optionality in their power sources and rate plans. Promoting market forces and consumer choice is key to achieving affordable electricity.
