I am writing to demand that you publicly and loudly stand for the Constitution and against governmental overreach, specifically in the blatantly-retributive and partisan announcement by the Pentagon that Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) would be investigated for a potential court martial after he exercised his First Amendment right and duty both as a veteran and a congressman to remind our Armed Forces of their oath. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s recent updates to investigation proceedings are in direct conflict with what is being done: “We are attacking and ending the 'walking on eggshells' and zero-defect command culture. A risk-averse culture means officers execute not to lose, instead of to win… We are liberating an Inspector General process — the ‘IG’ — that has been weaponized, putting complainers, idealogues and poor performers in the driver's seat.” (https://www.usar.army.mil/News/News-Display/Article/4324195/hegseth-announces-series-of-war-department-reforms-in-sweeping-speech-to-top-mi/) “As permitted by law, apply uniform, legally sound thresholds to ensure formal investigations are initiated only when clearly wananted. Kelly is wrong, both morally and legally: “Kelly’s status as a U.S. senator could complicate the Pentagon’s investigation because the Constitution explicitly shields members of Congress from White House overreach, said Anthony Michael Kreis, a constitutional law professor at Georgia State University. ‘Having a United States senator subject to discipline at the behest of the secretary of defense and the president — that violates a core principle of legislative independence.’” (https://apnews.com/article/pentagon-mark-kelly-troop-investigation-4882f76b05dcdfa3060c284c2c84dd12) If you *truly* believe that Sen. Kelly was engaging in “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!” (https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115582703277798715), then I expect nothing but dignity and respect for law and order from the GOP. (Also, as a side note, have you actually scrolled down POTUS’ Truth Social page? And you think that man is fit to run our country?? Stop being willfully blind.) I look forward to seeing your denouncement of this unconstitutional witch hunt.
