Safeguarding national security from potential foreign influence risks

To: Sen. Curtis, Sen. Lee

From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT

February 5

Elon Musk's increasing influence and potential access to classified information could pose grave risks to national security. With SpaceX holding a near-monopoly on US rocket launches and Musk's business dealings heavily reliant on China, there are valid fears that he could be pressured or coerced into handing over sensitive data to foreign adversaries like China. China does not hesitate to demand intelligence from companies operating within its borders. Musk's substantial borrowing from Chinese state-owned banks to fund Tesla's Shanghai factory creates potential vulnerabilities. Furthermore, ongoing federal reviews raise troubling questions about Musk's failure to disclose meetings with foreign leaders and other potential violations of national security protocols. As a prominent figure with proximity to the President, any breach of classified information would be disastrous for America's security and democratic institutions. This grave issue demands urgent attention to safeguard our nation's interests from the potential for undue foreign influence by unelected private individuals driven by profit motives. Robust oversight measures are crucial to ensure transparency and accountability regarding Musk's activities that could impact national security.
