Vote No on FBI Counterterrorism Budget Expansion

To: Rep. Maloy, Sen. Lee, Sen. Curtis

From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT

April 16

Vote no on the fiscal year 2027 budget proposal that would increase FBI counterterrorism funding by $166 million to target so-called "gender extremism." The FBI should not become the gender police or the morality police. This budget redefines domestic terrorism to include Americans who hold views on migration, race, gender, family, religion, or morality that differ from what the administration calls "traditional American views." It would create a new NSPM-7 Joint Mission Center focused on investigating "leftist" ideology and "political violence" that conflates political dissent with national security threats. As ACLU National Security Project Director Hina Shamsi warned, this is a deliberate attempt to intimidate and silence opposition to presidential abuses. Counterterrorism resources exist to protect Americans from actual threats, not to investigate citizens based on their beliefs about gender, capitalism, or Christianity. This proposal weaponizes federal law enforcement against constitutionally protected speech and turns the FBI into an ideological enforcement agency. That's not what counterterrorism funding is for, and it's not what Americans deserve from their government.
