I am deeply concerned citizen regarding an egregious and unacceptable incident that occurred in Westminster, Maryland, in which a 52-year-old mother, reportedly with no criminal record and a pending immigration case, was forcibly removed from her vehicle and detained by ICE agents. Eyewitness reports and video evidence confirm that despite the woman’s lawful request to see an order of removal — a basic legal right — ICE agents proceeded to smash her vehicle window, disregarding due process and demonstrating a blatant abuse of power. This individual, a mother of children who watched in terror as their parent was forcibly taken, was treated with violence and disrespect by officers of the United States government. Not only was this woman legally permitted to remain in the country while her case is pending, but she also posed no threat to public safety. Her repeated requests for legal documentation were ignored. This is not law enforcement. This is lawlessness under the color of authority. This is not public safety. This is state-sponsored terror against peaceful families. This is not justice. This is a human rights violation, committed on U.S. soil, in our community. As my elected representative and public servant, you are duty-bound to take immediate action to ensure: 1. A full investigation into the conduct of the ICE agents involved in this incident. 2. Full legal representation and release for the victim, pending proper review of her case. 3. Transparent accountability from ICE leadership regarding unlawful detentions and use of force. 4. Legislative action to curtail these abuses of power and to protect families from illegal raids and violations of constitutional rights. We cannot and must not allow government agencies to operate above the law, nor should our communities be terrorized by those sworn to uphold our values and protect our freedoms. I urge you to speak publicly, act swiftly, and defend the rights of your constituents and all people who seek lawful due process in this country. I expect a prompt and public response to this urgent matter.
