Government Shutdown Disaster Relief

To: Rep. Subramanyam, Sen. Warner, Sen. Kaine

From: A constituent in Manassas, VA

October 6

Please pressure Governor Youngkin to declare a state of emergency in VA so that all of the federal employees affected by the government shutdown can get disaster relief assistance. For instance during the COVID crisis because it was declared an emergency, if your pay was going to decrease by more than 10% you could apply to have your mortgage deferred for 3 months at a time until such time as your pay went back to normal. In my situation my husband and I are both federal employees, one of us is essential and still working without pay. But now neither of us is getting our paychecks through no fault of our own. Governor Youngkin needs to do the right thing for his constituents and declare an emergency so that we don't lose our homes to the government shutdown.
