An Open Letter

To: Sen. Wielechowski, Rep. Eischeid, Gov. Dunleavy

From: A constituent in Anchorage, AK

May 19

Dunleavy has vetoed the Alaska Pension Bill, leading to Mr. Kopp to say, “the pension was a good vehicle to help get people there and be more conciliatory towards this gasline legislation than they otherwise would have been. Now that the governor has vetoed the pension, I expect the conciliatory attitudes will suffer.” Good! The Gas Pipeline should be considered on it's own merits, and we need more information from Glenfarne, like the expected cost, to make a real decision on if it is a good plan for us. Offering to put the State in debt for Alaskan workers without Glenfarne giving us the info to show the pipeline can actually help fund our state is stupid. We need more information and more commitments from Glenfarne to show that they respect our State as a business partner and plan to make us all a lot of money, not just themselves at our expense. I want to see their estimates, or at least have them shared with a bipartisan panel chosen by the legislature with an NDA preventing revealing specific figures. Not showing them to any of us demonstrates a lack of respect and makes me suspicious of their motivations.
