End Our State’s Complicity in Israel’s Genocide Now
To: Rep. Lieder, Sen. Kolker, Gov. Polis
From: A verified voter in Littleton, CO
November 12
I am a constituent writing with urgency and moral clarity. Our state must immediately end all institutional, financial, and political ties with the government of Israel until it complies with international law. Every dollar and partnership we maintain makes us complicit in genocide. For over two years, Israel has carried out a campaign of mass killing, starvation, and destruction in Gaza. It has annexed Palestinian land, targeted journalists, bombed hospitals, and deliberately blocked humanitarian aid. These are not “defensive actions.” They are crimes against humanity. 1. Repeal anti-BDS laws. Many states, including ours, have laws penalizing individuals or companies that boycott Israel. These laws are unconstitutional, violating the First Amendment by forcing economic loyalty to a foreign state. Repealing them is the first step toward restoring our state’s moral and legal integrity. 2. Divest all public funds from Israeli and complicit corporations. State pension systems and investment portfolios must withdraw from companies that manufacture weapons, surveillance tech, or construction materials used in occupation and apartheid. Public money should not bankroll war crimes. 3. Ban state contracts with firms aiding Israel’s military or settlements. No taxpayer-funded contract, procurement, or subsidy should go to corporations that profit from genocide. Ethical contracting should apply to all governments, including Israel’s. 4. End trade missions and partnerships with Israeli state institutions. All “innovation exchanges,” business delegations, and university collaborations with Israeli state agencies or defense-linked entities should be terminated. Partnerships cannot normalize apartheid. 5. Require transparency and public reporting. Every state should publish an annual, public accounting of investments, contracts, and institutional relationships involving Israeli companies or those complicit in human-rights abuses. Transparency is the foundation of accountability. 6. Acknowledge reality. Israel’s deliberate targeting of civilians, destruction of infrastructure, and engineered famine meet the legal definition of genocide. States that continue business as usual are endorsing it. Our state must stand on the side of justice. Repeal anti-boycott laws. Divest from genocide. Ban complicit contracts. End institutional partnerships. Demand full transparency. Please respond with your position on these actions and explain what steps you will take to ensure our state is no longer complicit. The people of this state—and the world—are watching.
