An Open Letter

To: Sen. Kennedy, Rep. Letlow, Sen. Cassidy

From: A constituent in Denham Springs, LA

March 24

I am writing to urge you to support H.R. 6617 – Keeping All Students Safe Act (chatgpt://generic-entity?number=0), introduced by Donald S. Beyer Jr. (chatgpt://generic-entity?number=1). Every child deserves to feel safe, respected, and protected in their learning environment—no exceptions. This bill takes a critical step toward ensuring that harmful and dangerous disciplinary practices in schools are replaced with evidence-based approaches that prioritize student safety, dignity, and well-being. Across the country, students—especially those with disabilities—are still subjected to practices that can cause lasting physical and psychological harm. That is unacceptable. Schools should be places of growth and protection, not fear. H.R. 6617 establishes clear, consistent standards that protect students while supporting educators with safer, more effective tools. This is not just about policy—it’s about basic human rights and the responsibility we have to safeguard children in our care. I urge you to stand on the side of student safety, accountability, and compassion by supporting this bill and advocating for its swift passage. Our children are watching. Let’s show them that their safety is non-negotiable.
