Leave DEI Alone

To: Sen. Hashmi, Del. Gardner

From: A constituent in Chesterfield, VA

January 30

Costco should have the freedom to operate its business as it sees fit, including maintaining diversity, equity, and inclusion policies that align with the company's values and goals. Nearly all Costco shareholders recently voted to uphold these policies, demonstrating that they view DEI initiatives as beneficial rather than discriminatory. Attempting to force Costco to abandon practices that promote a more inclusive workforce and consumer experience is an unwarranted government overreach into private business decisions. Companies must be allowed to implement strategies they believe will enable them to recruit top talent, serve their customer base effectively, and remain competitive in today's market. Costco's success underscores that their approach is working. Rather than acceding to pressure from a small group of attorneys general, Costco should stay the course with policies that have earned the resounding support of its owners and leadership team.
