I am writing to you as a concerned constituent, a parent, and someone who can no longer accept the continued inaction in the face of preventable gun violence. In light of the most recent school shooting in Madison, Wisconsin, it is beyond time to take meaningful steps to protect our children, our schools, and our communities.
Every parent should feel confident that their children will return home safely at the end of the school day. Instead, we live in a nation where school shootings have become tragically common, and we are forced to question whether our leaders are willing to act at all. Our children deserve more than “thoughts and prayers”—they deserve decisive policies that prioritize their safety over access to dangerous weapons.
I am urging you to support and advocate for:
1. **Universal background checks** to close all loopholes.
2. **Bans on assault-style weapons and high-capacity magazines**, which have no place in civilian life.
3. **Stronger red flag laws** that allow intervention when individuals pose a threat to themselves or others.
4. **Safe storage laws** to prevent access to firearms by children or unauthorized users.
As a parent of two young children, I worry deeply about the world we are creating for the next generation. Your leadership is crucial. The vast majority of Americans—regardless of political affiliation—support common-sense gun reforms. I ask that you prioritize our safety over partisan politics and take bold action now.
I will be watching your response and your record on this issue closely. We are counting on you to lead.
