Commit to Prosecuting ICE and CBP Agents Who Break State Law

To: Rep. Odioso, Sen. Blessing, Gov. DeWine

From: A verified voter in Cincinnati, OH

April 17

I need you to commit to prosecuting any crimes committed by ICE and CBP agents in our jurisdiction to the fullest extent of state law. The federal Justice Department will not hold these agents accountable, so local prosecutors must step in. Six career prosecutors in Minneapolis resigned after Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche blocked the state AG's inquiry into Renee Nicole Good's murder. Five more prosecutors left the Civil Rights Division. CNN reported that Homeland Security lied about an ICE shooting in Maryland last December. The federal government even tried to indict Miramar Martinez after a CBP agent shot her. This pattern is clear: the compromised federal system will let immigration agents assault people with impunity. There is strong legal precedent for state and local prosecution of federal officials who use deadly force on the job, including after Ruby Ridge. Federal officials are not above the law when their actions violate state criminal statutes and are not necessary and proper for fulfilling their duties. Follow the example of the Hennepin County Attorney. Join the Fight Against Federal Overreach coalition. Prosecute these crimes where the Department of Justice won't act.
