Remember when republicans were ten toes to the line on “stop the steal?” Where are WE THE PEOPLE on that? Last night, Netflix dropped its pursuit to purchase Warner Brothers, allowing Paramount and David Allison to acquire it instead. I know it seems like an unlikely thing to write a congressman about, but hear me out- if David Allison is close to Trump (he is), and he and paramount control Warner brothers and its affiliates (he will), Trump will have unprecedented access to what news media organizations such as CNN will report. He will basically control the press- let that sink in for a moment. He will have the power to manipulate a supposed free press. While the more educated among us understand that CNN and FOX news are just opposite sides of the same coin, many Americans do not understand media bias and the nuances involved. They don’t look for source material or unbiased reports. They don’t fact check. So, if Trump controls the narrative on both sides of biased journalism, many Americans will not have access to true and reliable reporting. I don’t know what the solution is. I’d argue monopoly issues, but with all the different networks and parent companies, I’m not sure it would apply. Perhaps an urgency to push your constituents to less biased news media such as Reuters and Al Jazeera who have no metaphorical horses in the race would help. Whatever you do- you MUST stand up and highlight this action before it’s too late. The first amendment relies on it.
