Vote NO on H.R. 9495
To: Rep. Simpson
From: A constituent in Declo, ID
November 12
Congress must reject H.R. 9495 to protect civil liberties and constitutional rights. This partisan legislation would grant the executive branch unchecked power to investigate and dismantle any nonprofit organization, including news outlets, universities, and civil rights groups, based solely on unilateral accusations without due process. Over 120 respected organizations spanning civil liberties, religion, reproductive rights, immigrant rights, human rights, racial justice, LGBTQ+ rights, the environment, and education have raised serious concerns. Allowing the revocation of tax-exempt status through executive overreach poses a grave threat to freedom of speech, freedom of association, and freedom of the press enshrined in the First Amendment. Nonprofits play a vital role in our democracy by holding the government accountable. This bill undermines that crucial system of checks and balances. To safeguard constitutional liberties and nonprofit advocacy, H.R. 9495 must be defeated.
