Protect military independence from political interference
The abrupt firing of Air Force Gen. Charles Q. Brown as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is an alarming move that undermines the non-partisan and independent nature of our nation's military leadership. Brown is a respected and decorated officer who has honorably served for over 40 years. Removing top officers based on personal motivations rather than military expertise jeopardizes the operational readiness and integrity of the armed forces.
The United States military must remain politically neutral and loyal to the Constitution, not any individual leader. Civilian control is a foundational principle, but the President does not have the authority to shape the military into a personal loyalist force. Such actions damage civil-military relations and compromise the military's ability to provide impartial advice and effectively defend the nation. I urge you to take immediate action to protect the independence and professionalism of the U.S. military from undue political interference. Our service members swear an oath to support and defend the Constitution, not any single administration's agenda. Preserving an apolitical military dedicated to upholding constitutional principles is vital for maintaining a strong national defense and democratic system of government. The American people rely on you to safeguard these ideals.
