Please vote in favor of Representative Thomas Massie’s amendment to the FY2027 National Security, State Department, and Related Programs Appropriations Act that would eliminate U.S. Foreign Military Financing for Israel.
I do not believe my tax dollars should fund military operations that have resulted in enormous civilian suffering or actions that many legal experts and international organizations have concluded violate international humanitarian law. Regardless of one’s views on the broader conflict, the United States should not provide billions of dollars in military aid without meaningful oversight or accountability.
I am also deeply concerned that continued unconditional military support risks drawing the United States into a broader regional conflict. Americans have spent decades paying—in lives and in trillions of dollars—for wars in the Middle East. We should be doing everything possible to avoid repeating those mistakes.
Israel is a wealthy nation with a highly advanced military and economy. It is fully capable of financing its own defense. At a time when Americans are struggling with rising costs at home and Congress is debating cuts to programs like Medicaid, asking taxpayers to continue subsidizing another country’s military is increasingly difficult to justify.
Supporting this amendment does not mean abandoning Israel’s security. It means recognizing that American military aid should never be automatic or unconditional, and that Congress has a responsibility to ensure taxpayer dollars are spent in ways that reflect our values, our interests, and our commitment to peace.
I urge you to vote YES on Representative Massie’s amendment.
