I am writing to urge you to reject the recent CDC childhood vaccination policy changes implemented under Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and to take immediate action to ensure continued vaccine access at the state level. In 2025, the CDC released new childhood immunization recommendations that no longer include routine vaccination against flu, rotavirus, hepatitis A and B, some types of meningitis, and RSV. These changes contradict established science and threaten decades of disease control progress. Most alarmingly, they were released during a record-high surge in hospitalizations for flu-like respiratory illnesses, precisely when children need protection most. These policy changes were made behind closed doors without formal public comment or rigorous scientific expert input. This lack of transparency and disregard for established scientific processes is unacceptable when children's health is at stake. Medical experts warn that these changes will worsen already declining vaccination rates, reduce access to care by requiring unnecessary additional doctor visits, and endanger insurance coverage for vaccines that families depend on. I am asking you to take two critical actions. First, demand a full congressional investigation into how these changes were made and the scientific basis for undermining childhood vaccination access. The public deserves transparency about decisions that affect our children's health. Second, act at the state level to ensure continued access to these essential vaccines regardless of federal recommendations. States have the authority to maintain their own immunization schedules and insurance coverage requirements. Children in our state should not suffer needless illness and death because of ideologically driven federal policy changes that ignore medical evidence. I urge you to prioritize children's health and safety by investigating these changes and protecting vaccine access in our state.
