Uphold due process and improve conditions at all detention centers.

To: Rep. McGuire

From: A constituent in Charlottesville, VA

July 25

On July 18, 2025, your office wrote: “Alligator Alcatraz is simply a detention site for dangerous criminals who do not belong in the United States.” As of this writing, ICE is currently detaining 56,816 people. Over 70% of them have not been convicted of ANY crime. Because there’s been no due process — no independent verification of who these people are or even that they have been in the United States illegally — it is entirely possible that some detainees are American citizens. You also failed to respond to my concern, which is about the conditions at the facility. Thousands of people are being held in canvas tents, in swamp heat, without plumbing, sanitation, or mosquito control. That’s not just inhumane, it’s immoral. I hold this concern *regardless* of whether the detainees are “dangerous criminals”; even dangerous criminals deserve humane conditions. I thought you were a Christian. You must speak out about this and take steps to improve it.
