According to CNN, nearly 80% of Americans approve of immigration. Now is the time for immigration reform, to allow faster routes for people to become legal non-citizen residents and citizens. The current methods take forever and are expensive; even people who took the "married an American" route must pay hundreds or thousands of dollars for the paperwork that will allow them to legally work in the U.S. This must change: perhaps probationary work periods with inexpensive renewals until the paperwork can be finalized. Similarly, categories of work should be opened up to refugees while their applications are pending, and the funds that have gone to ICE should be repurposed to make background checks happen faster, using that agency for good instead of for illegal raids and detention without cause (including of U.S. citizens!).
Please start cleaning up our messy, time-consuming, and expensive immigration laws so our country can thrive with new citizens!
