The Trump administration's 50% tariff on Canadia is counterproductive and harmful to the U.S. economy. These tariffs will increase costs for American consumers and businesses, disrupt integrated supply chains, and damage a valuable trade relationship with a close ally.
These actions create economic uncertainty and undermine fair trade principles. Maintaining good relations and open markets with our northern neighbor is crucial for American economic interests and global leadership.
Trump may have already ruined any chance we have of salvaging a good relationship with one of our closest allies. His credibility is trashed.
Additionally, the Supreme Court has already made it clear that the power to put tariffs in place does not belong to the president. Instead the power to place tariffs, and the entire power of the purse, belongs to Congress.
The only reason Trump has been able to continue these agressive and harmful trade tactics is because the Republican dominated Congress has not stopped him.
It is time to do your job and remind Trump that he is overstepping. Congress must tell him his unconstitutional power grab ends here!
