I'm writing to express my deep frustration over the ongoing government shutdown. I’m tired of hearing political spin that blames Democrats for refusing a bad deal. The truth is that this shutdown is happening because Congressional leaders are failing to produce a bill that can realistically pass both chambers and be signed into law. Republics have the clear majority. You could make this happen if you cared enough to compromise.
This is not about Democrats trying to "give healthcare to illegal immigrants" or any other distraction. It’s about a failure to govern responsibly. Americans deserve a functioning government, not ideological stunts.
Meanwhile, members of Congress like yourself continue to collect a paycheck while hundreds of thousands of hardworking Americans are either working without pay or furloughed through no fault of their own. That is unacceptable.
If you can’t do the basic job of keeping the government open, you shouldn’t be collecting a salary either. I expect my elected officials to work together, compromise, and get this resolved. Stop using good Americans’ livelihoods as leverage in a political fight.
End the shutdown. Do your job. Do better.
