I am writing to express serious concern regarding the formation of the Anti-Christian Bias Task Force by Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi. While religious liberty is a cherished and protected value in the United States, this initiative appears to be driven more by political posturing than by a legitimate, data-supported need.
According to data from the FBI’s 2022 Hate Crime Statistics, anti-Christian incidents account for a small fraction of religiously motivated crimes, with the vast majority of incidents targeting Jewish, Muslim, and Sikh communities. In that year alone, over 50% of religiously motivated hate crimes were anti-Jewish, while anti-Christian incidents made up less than 10%. This calls into question the justification for a state-sponsored task force solely focused on anti-Christian bias.
Furthermore, many experts have warned that efforts like this risk amplifying a false narrative of widespread Christian persecution in a country where Christianity remains the dominant religion and is deeply embedded in public life. This narrative has been weaponized in recent years to oppose policies that protect LGBTQ+ rights, reproductive freedoms, and religious diversity—all under the guise of defending “religious liberty.”
Rather than promoting unity or protecting all people of faith, this task force may inadvertently deepen divides by prioritizing one group’s perceived grievances over the documented threats facing others. A government body focused on religious discrimination should take an inclusive approach grounded in data, civil rights law, and constitutional values—not partisan ideology.
I urge Congress to investigate the rationale, structure, and potential impacts of this task force and to ensure that any public policy aimed at addressing religious bias is based on facts and serves the interests of all Americans, not just the politically favored majority.
Thank you for your attention and commitment to upholding the principles of equality and justice.
