Reject Destructive Tariffs, Protect American Prosperity

To: Sen. Tillis, Rep. Rouzer, Sen. Budd

From: A constituent in Wilmington, NC

April 6

Trump's sweeping tariffs are putting a heavy burden on American households and businesses. These import taxes will raise consumer prices across the board, from clothes and shoes to groceries and raw materials needed for manufacturing. Disrupting long-standing trade relationships and provoking retaliation from other nations risks pushing the global economy into recession. While the president aims to revive domestic industries and secure better trade deals, escalating tariffs is an economically destructive approach that ultimately harms American workers and consumers. Congress has the constitutional authority over tariffs and should exercise its power to rein in the administration's protectionist policies before they inflict further damage. Rejecting or constraining the tariffs through legislation would restore principles of free trade that have long benefited the U.S. economy. American families cannot afford the rising costs from an escalating trade war. It is imperative that Congress acts to prevent the tariffs from raising prices on everyday goods and essential industrial inputs. Upholding free trade and maintaining strong economic ties with partners around the world is crucial for American prosperity. Defusing the tariff crisis should be an urgent priority to protect the interests of U.S. businesses and households.
