Congress Must Take Swift Action!
To: Rep. Hayes
From: A verified voter in Waterbury, CT
August 11
Members of Congress, it is imperative that you take immediate action regarding the escalating crisis in Gaza. I urge you to be fully aware of the alarming situation, particularly the recent targeted strike by Israel against an Al Jazeera news crew, resulting in the tragic deaths of all members. In the past 22 months, over **227 Palestinian journalists** have been killed, marking the highest number of journalists targeted in conflict during the 21st century. This systematic targeting serves to obscure the ongoing genocide and war crimes, and it is utterly unacceptable. We need you to publicly condemn this attack and advocate for accountability today! Furthermore, on June 5, Representatives Delia Ramirez, Sara Jacobs, Pramila Jayapal, and Mark Pocan, along with 18 colleagues, introduced a groundbreaking bill in Congress aimed at addressing these issues. While the bill currently has has garnered 33 co-sponsors, I am calling today to urgently request that Representative (Name) take the following actions: - Co-sponsor H.R. 3565: This bill seeks to limit the transfer of defense articles and services to Israel, commonly known as the **Block the Bombs Act**. By supporting this legislation, Congress can work to prevent the Trump administration from supplying major weapons to Israel, including bombs, tank rounds, and artillery shells, which have been used in the mass killings of Palestinians in Gaza. If enacted, this bill would prohibit the transfer of various munitions, including: - BLU-109 bunker-busting bombs - MK80 series bombs - GBU-39 small diameter bomb variants - Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAMs) - SPICE gliding bomb assemblies - 120mm tank ammunition - 155mm artillery ammunition, including white phosphorus munitions Polls indicate that a significant majority of Americans support halting the flow of these lethal weapons. This bill represents a historic effort by Congress to proactively block arms sales to Israel. Additionally, I urge you to **oppose H.R. 902**, which seeks to prohibit the use of the term "West Bank" and instead mandate the use of "Judea and Samaria." This legislation is an inappropriate attempt to further entrench political narratives that do not serve the interests of peace and justice. It is not the responsibility of the United States to act as an enabler for Israel's actions. I will be closely monitoring your response to these urgent demands.
