Constitutional Duty: Seat the Elected Representative Immediately.
To: Rep. Bean, Sen. Scott, Sen. Moody
From: A constituent in Yulee, FL
October 8, 2025
congress I am writing to demand immediate action: Adelita Grijalva must be sworn in today as Representative-Elect. The delay orchestrated by Speaker Mike Johnson is an affront to democracy and the will of Arizona’s voters.
The situation, as reported, is egregious: House leadership is holding her seat hostage, suggesting that her swearing-in is being delayed for political leverage—specifically to force concessions or extract votes on unrelated matters such as rules changes or government funding. That’s not governance. That’s coercion.
By denying Grijalva her oath, the House is:
• Undermining the constitutional duty to seat duly elected representatives.
• Disenfranchising the people of her district.
• Weaponizing process for political gain.
This is not procedural nuance—it’s a power play in bad faith. Your job is to protect democracy, not enable its erosion.
Therefore, I call on you, as my elected official, to:
1. Publicly demand that Speaker Johnson swear in Adelita Grijalva without further delay.
2. Support motions, resolutions, or parliamentary maneuvers that enforce her swearing-in.
3. Hold accountable any House leadership or members complicit in obstructing this process.
Let it be clear: I will judge your response (or silence) accordingly in the next election cycle. This is a line we do not cross—her seat must no longer be held as ransom.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I expect to hear your position and actions by close of business today.
