Vote No on Pentagon's $200 Billion Iran War Funding Request
To: Sen. Lee, Rep. Maloy, Sen. Curtis
From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT
March 19
Vote no on the Pentagon's $200 billion funding request for military operations in Iran. Congress never authorized this war, and you shouldn't be writing checks for an illegal conflict.
The Pentagon is asking for a massive sum without ever seeking congressional approval to use military force in the first place. That's backwards. If this administration wants to wage war, it needs to come to Congress first for authorization, not after the fact with a bill for $200 billion. Funding an unauthorized military operation sets a dangerous precedent that undermines Congress's constitutional war powers.
Whether the Pentagon calls this a war or an "excursion" doesn't change the reality. American forces are engaged in sustained military operations that require congressional authorization under the Constitution. Approving funding without that authorization makes Congress complicit in circumventing its own authority. Vote no on any supplemental funding request until proper authorization is debated and voted on.
