There is a vote coming up on H.R. 9495, which I understand is likely a reaction to protests over Palestine. While I understand wanting to stop antisemitic elements of such protests, I am asking you to reject this bill. The powers it grants to suppress dissent are much too great to risk giving to the upcoming Republican administration, especially when they have already o penly stated their intent to use the government to punish and suppress their opposition. There is a history of abusive material support investigations and p rosecutions from the post-9/11 era – disproportionately against Muslims and charities, and we cannot hand an openly punitive administration a tool to repeat such abuses. Please join me in opposing all expansions of discretionary authority for the upcoming administration broadly, starting with voting NO on H.R. 9495.
