Anna St. John was confirmed to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana on March 17, 2026, and her record should alarm anyone who cares about judicial independence, worker protections, and civil rights. I'm asking you to use every available tool to scrutinize this confirmation and oppose any future elevation of St. John to the Fifth Circuit.
Her record speaks for itself. She testified against the End Forced Arbitration of Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment Act, a bipartisan bill protecting survivors. As President and General Counsel of the Hamilton Lincoln Law Institute, an organization funded by Koch family foundations, Monsanto, and Exxon Mobil, she repeatedly intervened in consumer class action cases to gut settlements that would have helped ordinary people. She co-authored briefs arguing businesses can discriminate against LGBTQ+ individuals and that transgender women should be banned from the Miss USA pageant. She even published an op-ed attacking New York Times Co. v. Sullivan, the 60-year-old precedent that protects the free press and the public's right to criticize government officials.
This is not a mainstream jurist. This is an advocate for corporate power and discrimination who has spent her career working against the people a federal judge is supposed to serve impartially. Her confirmation to any higher court must be blocked.
