I read with great interest the recent newsletter that Senator Scott put out encouraging Floridians to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season. Well done sir. Now there is something you, our elected officials need to do. Floridians need you, our elected officials to step up and cancel the proposed cuts to NOAA, the National Weather Service and the National Hurricane Center. As you surely know, these agencies provide life saving information to Floridians that provide timely warning of storms and hurricanes that threaten our safety. Gutting the agency budget, staff and personnel will only serve to allow citizens to be caught off guard and unaware of impending weather threats. It’s time to step up and ensure our early warning systems. As you know, hurricanes are becoming larger and are intensifying into deadly events much more quickly than in years past. Lack of action on your part will be catastrophic for Floridians and all Americans. Do what we elected you all to do and step up! Stop the slash and burn of the systems such as these agencies that keep Americans safer and better informed.
