I'm writing regarding tonight's presidential address. As your constituent, I want to express my horror with regard to the current administration, their policies, and their impact on our economy, democratic institutions, and international relationships.
The majority of Americans oppose the administration's proposed budget cuts to essential programs like Medicaid, USAID, and food assistance while supporting tax cuts for the wealthy. We don't want tariffs that increase prices on everyday necessities for working families.
I'm asking you to take a stronger, more visible and defiant stand during tonight's address. This is not business as usual, and your response shouldn't be either. I urge you to consider:
- Visibly challenging misinformation during the speech
- Holding up informational signs that counter false claims about tariffs, the economy, or foreign policy
- Coordinating with colleagues for a meaningful collective response, such as a strategic walkout at critical moments
- Wearing or displaying symbols of democratic values and the Constitution
Simply sitting politely sends the wrong message to Americans who are terrified about the direction of our country. We need to see that our representatives have the courage to stand up for democratic principles in real time.
Please don't remain silent or passive during this critical moment. Our country needs bold leadership and a strong oppositional voice right now.
Thank you for your time.
