I am writing in response to concerns I have after reading your 1/5/26 Webster Wire. You wrote, “[Operation Absolute Resolve] was carried out by the U.S Military including Delta Force to protect the people in our country against foreign narco-terrorists.” Your designation of this operation as a military operation is correct. However, I would appreciate additional clarification because Secretary of State Marco Rubio advised on 1/4/26, “This was an arrest operation. This was a law enforcement operation” (https://www.state.gov/releases/office-of-the-spokesperson/2026/01/secretary-of-state-marco-rubio-with-george-stephanopoulos-of-abcs-this-week). David French, a well-known legal expert on the First Amendment and just law theory, opined in response, “This defense is laughable. Under that reasoning, a president could transform virtually any war into a law enforcement operation by indicting opposing leaders and claiming that the large military forces needed to secure the leader’s arrest were simply protecting law enforcement. That’s not an argument; it’s an excuse” (https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/05/opinion/trump-venezuela-maduro-clausewitz-aquinas.html). You also wrote, “President Trump’s actions against the Maduro regimemake clear that the United States will not tolerate foreign narco-terrorists who threaten our security and poison American communities.” I would appreciate clarification on this as well, seeing as how President Trump issued a pardon to narco-terrorist (https://www.justice.gov/archives/opa/pr/juan-orlando-hernandez-former-president-honduras-convicted-manhattan-federal-court ) Juan Orlando Hernández because “according to many people that I greatly respect, treated very harshly and unfairly” (https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115629406693931908). Something I and many parents work on teaching our children is, “If it’s not yours, don’t touch it.” My kids are 6 and 7. The US Government is comprised of fully-grown adults. Y’all know better. There is nothing “America First” about engaging in unauthorized open military action against another country to depose its leader (without even replacing Delcy Rodríguez? we all know the Maduro regime is illegitimate so if that illegitimacy is the basis of intervention then what about María Corina Machado, the rightful winner of the 2024 election?). There is a lot of evil you have refused to call out in this administration. Let the last straw be these boots on the ground. Do not praise actions that will lead to my husband being deployed to a new war zone.
