Reject Budget Cutting Medicaid, SNAP, and Endangering Vulnerable

To: Rep. Cherfilus-McCormick

From: A constituent in Lauderdale Lakes, FL

February 13

The Republican budget plan outlines $4.5 trillion in tax cuts over the next decade, offset partially by spending cuts to social programs. Medicaid is clearly in the crosshairs, with the House Energy and Commerce committee instructed to find $880 billion in savings, which analysts say can only realistically come from deep cuts to Medicaid. This vital program provides health coverage to over 70 million low-income Americans, including children, people with disabilities, and the elderly. Cuts of this magnitude would strip healthcare from millions and represent an attack on the most vulnerable members of society. These proposed cuts are unacceptable and go against protecting and strengthening crucial safety net programs like Medicaid, SNAP food assistance, and Social Security that uplift and support working families, children, the disabled, and the elderly. I urge you to reject this budget plan and instead prioritize policies that safeguard these essential programs and ensure all Americans can access quality affordable healthcare and a dignified standard of living. Our nation's moral standing is at stake – we must fund programs that provide for the basic needs of our most vulnerable, not decimate them to pay for tax cuts benefiting the wealthy and corporations. A: The Republican budget proposal threatens to deeply cut vital programs like Medicaid, SNAP food assistance, and Social Security in order to offset $4.5 trillion in tax cuts over the next decade. I urge you to reject this plan and instead prioritize protecting and strengthening these essential safety net programs that millions of low-income Americans, including children, the disabled, and elderly, rely on for healthcare and a basic standard of living. Deep cuts to Medicaid alone could strip coverage from over 70 million people. Our nation's moral fiber is at stake – we must properly fund programs that uplift the vulnerable, not sacrifice their wellbeing for tax breaks to the wealthy and corporations. Safeguarding Medicaid, SNAP, Social Security and access to quality affordable healthcare should be a top priority.
