The Ohio Prenatal Equal Protection Act is a deeply flawed and dangerous piece of legislation that demands your firm opposition. This bill seeks to redefine personhood from the moment of fertilization and criminalize abortion as homicide—threatening to subject women, healthcare providers, and even victims of incest and rape to prosecution. Such measures are not only extreme; they are legally unsound and morally indefensible. This bill oversteps constitutional boundaries, disregards established precedent, and blatantly infringes on the rights of Ohioans to bodily autonomy and private medical decision-making. It substitutes ideology for evidence, ignoring the consensus of medical experts who warn of the devastating consequences such laws will have on maternal health and emergency care. Moreover, it sets a precedent for criminalizing pregnancy itself. The law’s vague language would empower prosecutors to investigate and imprison women for pregnancy outcomes beyond their control subjecting them to intrusive state surveillance and eroding the fundamental presumption of innocence. It will also impact how IVF functions due to the protection of “pre-born humans”.  Legislators have a duty to govern responsibly, not pander to political extremism. Passing this bill would gravely harm Ohio’s legal integrity, overwhelm the justice system, and invite costly constitutional challenges that Ohio taxpayers will ultimately bear. This is not a bill about protecting life—it is a bill about exerting control AND on an issue that Ohioans decisively voted on with the 2023 Amendmant to the Ohio constitution.  Do not allow Ohio to become a cautionary tale of government overreach and reproductive cruelty. Vote no.
