An Open Letter

To: Rep. Elam, Sen. Bjorkman

From: A constituent in Cooper Landing, AK

April 13

Thank you both for your support of the increase of Base Student Allocation. We are and will continue to be in challenging fiscal times but prioritizing education will always be a position from which you can count on support from me and the vast majority of Alaskans. Please lean in as you begin the difficult work of leaning on the nay voters to support a veto override should the governor make the same poor choice he did last year. They don’t have to agree with the bill. They do need to respect that their duty is to the legislative body and to the VERY obvious will of the people, not one man. Please call on and call out the nays to support a veto override even if they couldn’t support the bills. Doing so asserts control and signals to the governor that the legislature can and will work together to deal with the complicated challenges Alaskans face and will not be paralyzed by the fear of being held hostage by line items. Thank you for your work. Keep fighting!
