A Call for Courage, Principle, and an End to ICE and Escalating Division
To: Sen. Budd, Sen. Tillis
From: A constituent in Chapel Hill, NC
January 27
Dear Senator,
You are one of a small number of Senators uniquely positioned to put your foot down—to use your mettle and speak plainly about the unsustainable divisiveness tearing at the fabric of our country.
We are witnessing situations that pit people against one another, escalating rhetoric that dehumanizes dissent, and the normalization of extraordinary force against law-abiding citizens exercising constitutional rights. At the same time, the American public is asked to accept blatant and perpetual dishonesty—this administration’s and past administrations alike—without accountability. These dynamics are accelerating unrest, not restoring order.
I trust that you recognize the tactics of division at work. I also recognize that you are attempting, in the way you believe most effective, to represent the people who elected you. But this is a make-or-break moment. The choice before you is stark: stand with the people and the Bill of Rights, or continue to align with an administration whose actions are deepening chaos and mistrust.
It is time to say enough—enough dysfunction, enough fear-driven policy, enough insanity masquerading as governance.
Speaking up will not be easy. Questioning voices within your own party—questioning Stephen Miller, questioning whether peaceful protest is being falsely labeled as domestic terrorism—will invite backlash. You may be told you will lose everything.
But courage in the face of fear is the stuff of legacy. Sanity amid chaos is rare—and history remembers it.
