The GAO is an important watchdog on activity and spending. Where the fully unnecessary DOGE debacle sold the American people to the highest bidder and wreaked damage that can never be undone, the GAO has always been the actual entity confronting inefficiency, incompetence, and corruption.
The House Appropriations spending bill cuts the GAO budget by nearly half. I urge you to support the Senate Appropriations bill which maintains funding levels. Gutting the GAO continues the destruction of independent monitoring that began with the administration’s attacks on agency Inspectors General. I’m infuriated that you have already spent six months abandoning your oath and allowing the Trump administration to lay waste to our country. If you are going to evade accountability, at the very least you can keep your eyes open at the corruption, incompetence and cruelty you have permitted. Allow the GAO to continue if only as a historical record of your appalling lack of decency and responsibility.
