As a disabled person who may need to rely on viting by mail in the future, I am deeply concerned about making the USPS a gatekeeper for US elections. My ability to vote by mail should not depend on which state I live in.
Aside from that, the new proposed USPS rule makes no sense. To create and implement an entirely new bureaucratic system that could result in eligible voters not receiving their ballots just months before a major election is a terrible idea.
If adopted, mistakes are inevitable and adding more responsibilities to an agency that is already desperately underfunded is a recipe for disaster. This is bound to lead to widespread chaos and confusion across the country.
Any real reform to our voting processes should be carefully planned and tested, not rushed in a way that disrupts the November election and negatively impacts upcoming elections.
I should not lose my ability to vote because of an error in a government database or a technical problem with a new system. The USPS should not adopt this proposed rule.
