Restore LGBTQ rights, repeal discriminatory Iowa law

To: Sen. Ernst, Sen. Grassley, Rep. Miller-Meeks

From: A constituent in Solon, IA

March 3

The recent passage of a law removing gender identity protections from Iowa's Civil Rights Act is a concerning development that undermines the fundamental rights and dignity of LGBTQ individuals. This regressive step not only sanctions discrimination but also emboldens those who seek to marginalize a vulnerable community. We must steadfastly uphold the principles of equality and non-discrimination enshrined in our laws and values. Stripping away essential legal safeguards perpetuates a culture of intolerance and serves to relegate LGBTQ citizens to second-class status. Such actions run counter to the ideals of a just and inclusive society that embraces diversity and respects the inherent worth of every individual. History has taught us that discrimination, in any form, erodes the fabric of our communities and diminishes us all. I urge you to reconsider this misguided legislation and work towards restoring comprehensive civil rights protections for all Iowans, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation. We must foster an environment where every person can live authentically, free from fear of prejudice or persecution. Equality under the law is not a privilege but a fundamental right that must be zealously guarded for the betterment of our society.
