Demand Immediate Censure and Removal of Representative Randy Fine
To: Rep. Friedman
From: A constituent in Los Angeles, CA
February 17
I am writing to demand immediate action regarding Representative Randy Fine's recent display of blatant religious bigotry. On Sunday evening, Fine posted on X that "If they force us to choose, the choice between dogs and Muslims is not a difficult one." This statement is not merely offensive rhetoric. It is a direct violation of the constitutional principles that prohibit religious discrimination and a betrayal of the oath to represent all constituents.
Representative Fine represents Florida's 6th Congressional District, having been elected in a special election in 2025 to fill the seat vacated by former Representative Mike Waltz. His post has drawn condemnation across the political spectrum. California Democratic Representative Ro Khanna called it "disgusting bigotry" and demanded censure, stating this is "about morality and decency, not politics." Even conservative commentator Megyn Kelly responded with disbelief. CNN anchor Jake Tapper also condemned the post as "disgusting bigotry."
Fine's attempt to justify his statement by referencing a single individual's opinion about dogs as indoor pets does not excuse comparing an entire religious group unfavorably to animals. This is textbook dehumanization, the same rhetorical tactic used throughout history to justify discrimination and violence against marginalized communities. No elected official should engage in such rhetoric, regardless of political disagreements about any policy issue.
I am calling on you to take immediate action to censure Representative Fine and pursue his removal from office. His statement demonstrates he is unfit to represent the diverse constituents of Florida's 6th District or any American district. Every constituent, regardless of their faith, deserves representation from someone who respects their fundamental human dignity and constitutional rights.
This is not a partisan issue. It is a matter of basic decency and the standards we hold for those entrusted with public office. I urge you to act swiftly and decisively.
