I learned from my close friend this last weekend about two great nieces and their grandparents dying in the flood in Texas! We were sickened and sad. While we know that NOAA did get warnings out, due to staffing shortages, the published notices were not communicated to state officials promptly. Tragic! We’ve also learned the NOAA weather lab in Norman is closing thanks to funding cuts! So it seems making America great under the Big Brutal bill means Oklahomans will no longer get the notice they need when the tornado hits! The country will no longer have reliable data on hurricanes, floods, tornados! How exactly is this making America great?! We’ve learned from hospitals around Oklahoma, one in four hospitals will close starting with rural hospitals. All thanks to the big brutal bill. Those remaining will be flooded with emergencies limiting access to everyone. We know nursing homes will be closing and available only to those that can afford private pay! Who will care for the elderly who can’t afford care?! We know insurance premiums will rise! Also Medicare will be cut! We know food assistance for millions of Americans will end. Many of those are children, elderly and disabled. Do you think starving people is making America great?! We know energy costs will go up for all households in the future. As if things won’t be hard enough with tariffs! We know ICE funding tripled as we all watch in horror as immigrants who work our fields, , do construction and build homes are disappeared. Who will pick our crops, repair our bridges, work on our roads?! Americans won’t unless they are much better paid than immigrants! We watch in horror as fathers are separated from their families! Mothers torn from children. Children are taken from their schools. We learn that 14 million people with die due USAID cuts! Do you think that’s great! You say we will have tax cuts but in reality the poorer you are the more taxes you will pay in the future. Any other tax cuts will expire unless you are a billionaire, billionaire corporation or millionaire who will realize huge and permanent tax cuts! We know our deficit will grow by 3.5 trillion. In fact you and other Republicans don’t think it’s great which is why the cuts won’t go into full effect until after the midterms. Yes we see what you are doing! I think most Oklahomans will agree with me that losing their healthcare, food assistance, their weather alerts through NOAA, their nursing home care for their family, higher energy costs, no hospital access ….. is not great! Even worse you keep telling folks it’s great! Where is your shame?! Let’s hope Oklahoma recognizes that you don’t care about them and voted against their best interests. Let’s hope this time you don’t have them fooled. You clearly work for the very rich- not the rest of us! We deserve better and when we finally get that person, we will cheer!
