Oppose Imperialism, Fund Public Lands, Impeach Doug Burgum

To: Sen. Crapo, Sen. Risch, Rep. Simpson

From: A constituent in Ammon, ID

March 26

I'm calling on you to oppose the Trump administration's resource extraction scheme in Venezuela and support impeachment proceedings against Interior Secretary Doug Burgum for abandoning his duty to protect our public lands. Burgum just announced he brought back $100 million in Venezuelan gold after spending 10 hours negotiating with an unelected regime we helped install through a military raid. This isn't diplomacy. This is using the Interior Department to broker deals for mining executives while our own public lands go underfunded and unprotected. The Interior Secretary's job is to manage America's natural resources for the public good, not to fly around the world cutting deals for corporate mineral extraction. Meanwhile, the Bureau of Land Management, US Fish and Wildlife, and National Park Service face chronic underfunding, national parks are crumbling, and conservation programs are being gutted. Burgum is using his position to advance private industry interests in a foreign country that just experienced a U.S. military intervention. This is a betrayal of his oath of office. Vote against any appropriations that fund Interior Department trips to negotiate foreign resource deals. Co-sponsor articles of impeachment against Burgum. Our public lands need a Secretary who actually does the job.
