National Security Must Not Be Sacrificed for Corporate Tax Breaks I’m writing to urge you to oppose the spectrum auction provision in the House-passed reconciliation bill and to protect the critical communications infrastructure of our military and intelligence community. The bill currently calls for the sale of 600 MHz of federally owned spectrum — including frequencies used by the Department of Defense and intelligence agencies — to offset the cost of corporate tax cuts. While the House bill includes temporary protections for military spectrum in the first auction, this is dangerously insufficient. As Senator Mike Rounds and other defense experts have pointed out, auctioning off this spectrum without full and permanent exemptions for DoD and intelligence usage could severely undermine our national security. These frequencies support mission-critical operations such as: • Encrypted military communications • Missile guidance and early-warning systems • Unmanned systems (UAVs/drones) • Cyber and electronic warfare • Satellite tracking and GPS functions Once this spectrum is sold to commercial entities, especially for telecom expansion like 5G, interference and degradation of defense capabilities is not just possible — it’s probable. National security is not a bargaining chip. The safety of our service members and the integrity of our defense systems must come before corporate profits. I strongly urge you to: 1. Strip or rewrite this provision to ensure complete, long-term protection of all military and intelligence spectrum assets; 2. Demand a full review by the Armed Services and Intelligence Committees before any spectrum reallocations proceed; 3. Prioritize national defense over short-term revenue gains or corporate tax subsidies. Please do the right thing. Do not allow America’s defense infrastructure to be weakened under the guise of fiscal policy.
