I am writing today to ask for your support of Sub. H.B. 2 Establish the Child Care Credit Program. Childcare costs are one of the biggest financial burdens a family will face. While my children are grown, I remember how difficult it was for me as a single mother with 4 children. I was working and improving my financial position and ended up losing my Title XX funds when my oldest was 9. I was in college fulltime earning my first master's degree and was working fulltime to provide for my household because I was forced to raise my children alone for all of our safety. Assistance for families like mine is crucial to the safety of the children and to our economy. Many families cannot rely on their own families to help care for their children because they are also working and struggling to make ends meet. Now that I am working with mothers who are pregnant, I can see how childcare is a source of great stress for so many, and this stress that leads to other risks such as infant and maternal mortality. Sub. H. B. 2 would give families the support they need to help themselves out of poverty. I hope that we can count on you to make this happen!
